Volunteering

Strengthen your Cornell Connection: Volunteer Your Skills and Passions!

Cornell College is a non-profit organization, and like a lot of non-profits ranging from local soup kitchens to large hospitals, it relies on a healthy mix of professional and volunteer workers to provide as many services as possible.

Stay connected with Cornell: Check below how you'd like to give of your time and services. The following list is not exhaustive, but it may spark your imagination. Each of us has best ways of being involved. Find yours!

How you can help...

Alumni

Help Organize Regional Alumni Events. There's a lot more to alumni activities than coming back to campus for reunions. By working with the Alumni Office and a few other alumni in your area, you can generate that Cornell Connection in your own area. We know how to do it on our end, including how to host a planning/brainstorming gathering, best kinds of events, and how to ensure good attendance; it's your local initiative and knowledge that will make something happen!

Class Agents are the nexus points of their class. They are 1 or 2 class representatives who gather and share information about classmates for Class Notes and the class letters, and also beat the drum for gifts to the Annual Fund. Current agents are listed here. If your class does not have an agent, check out the job specifics and consider stepping up!

Reunion Planners are the kings and queens of party-planning! Is there one inside you dying to express him/herself? Take a role in brainstorming and organizing your class' upcoming reunion; make it a memorable event! The planning starts right after the preceding homecoming is done and continues throughout the year as you generate excitement within your class. When the party starts, relax and know that it's success was due to your effort.

Current Students

'DIMENSIONS: Center for Science and Culture of Healthcare' is a first-of-its-kind approach to education and training of students interested in health professions. Alumni are integral to the succes of the program by mentoring students, holding workshops, and providing off campus opportunities for students.

The Cornell Fellows Program is an exciting new opportunity for exceptional Cornell students to complete off-campus internships in their career fields working with distinguished alumni. The mission of the Cornell Fellows Program is to provide a unique spectrum of career experiences and mentoring beyond those available in the classroom.

Cornell Career Services help students and recent grads find internships and employment. The most valuable contacts Cornell students have are Cornell alumni. Job Shadowing, Externships, Internships, Mock Interviews, and Mentoring are just a sampling of the many ways the Career Services office and alumni continue to demonstrate how strong and positive they are about keeping the Cornell connection alive and thriving.

Future Students

Cornell Alumni Recruiting Effort (CARE). Why not join active alumni volunteers around the world who assist the Office of Admission in recruiting future Cornellians? Share your Cornell experience with prospective students at college fairs and receptions and during interviews and phone calls. Recent grads who volunteer in the CARE Program are particularly valuable to this program and may especially enjoy the opportunity to sing Cornell's praises and know they are having a real impact on the future of the College. (Please note: Your location and the number of other CARE volunteers in your area can affect how much you are called upon to help out.)

Alumni Profiles Willing to have your profile on our admission website? The Admission Office has a website dedicated to profiling our alumni and providing more “outcomes” information. What do our graduates do with a degree from Cornell? Where are they now? Outcomes are a huge concern with many parents and prospective students. They want to know what they will get for their financial investment in a Cornell education. We want to show them.

Other great ways to get involved:

Refer a prospective or future Student to Cornell. Know a high school junior who is undergoing the college search? Refer this student to Cornell with this simple form. Or help develop Cornell's legacy families by identifying alumni children and grandchildren.

Show your Cornell Pride by wearing your Cornell College t-shirt, hat or sweatshirt. And when people ask you about it, tell them about the outstanding experiences Cornell offers. If you don't have Cornell gear, check out the bookstore to see what's available.

Attend a Cornell event. Whether a student music recital, athletic event or drama production, let the students know you care. Check the calendar of events regularly to see what is going on, or subscribe to our news feed for all the latest from campus.

If you have decided to Connect with Cornell by checking one or more of the options, please also provide contact information and someone will follow-up with you about your interest.
