Extraordinary Opportunities
In the Classroom
Extraordinary things can happen in the classroom when students are allowed to focus on just one subject at a time. For four focused hours each day, students at Cornell make discoveries, explore new ideas, and pursue their passions in small, collaborative classroom settings.
For example:
- In Appellate Law, students immerse themselves in legal issues, even writing their own appellate briefs and arguing them in front of the class.
- Education students spend time observing classrooms in the morning, and reflecting on their experience back on campus in the afternoon.
- Art students at Cornell get uninterrupted studio time, so they can paint or draw whenever inspiration strikes—not just in 50-minute class time increments.
- Chemistry students have the luxury of launching large-scale experiments, knowing they won’t have to vacate the lab for another class.
