What's Been Done

The Energy Management Committee is developing a comprehensive energy management plan to reduce energy use across campus.  Meanwhile, a few significant accomplishments have already been made .

New construction

The construction of Clock Tower Hall included a number of LEED standards and the project earned a silver award from Alliant Energy for achieving 18.8 percent electric savings and 27.1 percent gas savings. Similar energy-efficiency measures are a key part of  the planning for additions to The Commons and West Science.

Renovations

Cornell is in the process of renovating a number of older buildings, with energy-efficiency as one of the goals. Recent renovations to Pfeiffer Hall and Cole Library included major upgrades to heating and cooling systems, windows, and other building systems. Similar approaches will be taken during renovations to Rood House and other campus buildings.

Gas and steam study

In conjunction with Shive-Hattery engineers, Cornell recently completed a study of its natural gas and steam systems. The recommendations made in this plan will likely be addressed incrementally as construction and renovation projects occur.
