Resources for Advisors & Faculty

Advising Information

Students interested in medical school and similar post-graduate health programs  face a number of specific admissions requirements, including specific pre-requisite courses. The following list represents the health-related careers most commonly sought by Cornell students, and the links lead to a great deal of specific information helpful in preparing for graduate education in each field. Most of the fields require course sequencing to begin the the freshman or sophomore year, and pre-requisites do change on occasion, so please check back often!

Funding Opportunities

Dimensions provides funding to faculty for summer research, interdisciplinary course development, and travel to professional meetings.

  • Summer research funding and course deveopment funding is provided by Dimensions via Academic Affairs. Funding is approved and allocated annually and projects are selected by the Faculty Development Committee.
  • Calls for proposals to fund travel to professional meetings/conferences come out twice per year. The Dimensions Operations Committee reviews the proposals. Funding is allocated based on relevance to the Dimensions program and the potential impact on students. Funding is prioritized based upon 1) Faculty traveling with students, 2) Faculty traveling without students, 3) Students traveling under the guidance of a faculty member who absolutely cannot attend due to a scheduling conflict. Faculty and students presenting at the meetings also receive prioritization over other proposals.

Funding is also available to bring speakers to campus, take off-campus field trips, and to purchase course resources such as library books and equipment. These proposals are accepted year round, are reviewed by the Dimensions Operations Committee, and are submitted directly to the Dimensions Program Coordinator. The guidelines for applying for these funds are available here:

Funding is available to students participating in for-credit internships and independent study opportunities. Applications for funding are available three times per year and cover blocks 2-5, blocks 6-summer, and blocks 9-1, including the summer. The applications are reviewed by the Dimensions Operations Committee. Funding is based upon the relevance to the Dimensions program and varies from $200 to $1500 per block depending upon the location of the experience.
