When the fiscal year ended June 30, Cornell had raised $51.8 million in gifts and pledges toward a $62 million comprehensive campaign that will culminate in the sesquicentennial celebration in 2003. The campaign began in July 1996. Upon its completion, Cornell students
will have gained a high-speed Internet connection in classrooms and all dorm rooms, along with new or improved facilities for the fine arts, athletics, and housing.
Alumni Hall, which is being renovated for the visual arts, has been renamed McWethy Hall in recognition of the family that has given
more than $2 million toward the Arts at Cornell campaign. The gift is from James B. McWethy 65, his wife, Susan, their son, Todd, and daughter, Gretchen. They made the gift in memory of Jim's parents, James D. and Muriel McWethy, and his grandparents, Lester and Gertrude Berry. James McWethy is a member of the Cornell
Board of Trustees and a Chicago businessman.
