Jeff Ruttencutter '03 received a five-year, $258,913 grant from the National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research of the National Institutes of Health to fund his training at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. The grant will cover years three through seven of his DDS/PhD study and his research into the mechanisms of stress impairment of wound healing. "What Jeff is doing is in some ways risky for him personally in that he's doing something very unique outside of his cohort of colleagues," said Dr. Phillip T. Marucha, Jeff's sponsor and mentor. "Jeff is a pioneer, and that's significant."
