At home around the world

  Alumni Profile

David Kim ’91 travels regularly to Asia to help foreign businesses find opportunity in America.

David Kim ’91 has been halfway around the world and back again, speaks three languages, works with Fortune 500 companies on a daily basis, and finds “great joy” in being able to vote in his first presidential election this November.

Working at Goldstein & Associates, a law firm that offers “landing services” for foreign businesses to set up shop in the United States, has afforded Kim the opportunity to travel frequently to east and southeast Asia while helping people find opportunity in America. Kim is a frequent traveler to Europe and Asia where he has far-reaching contacts in the international
business community. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal as an international business development specialist.

“The satisfying feeling of helping people get residence in the United States” is the most fulfilling aspect of his work, says Kim. “A lot of these people want residency in the United States for their children.”

Kim was born in South Korea and moved at age 2 to Hong Kong, where he lived until he was 17. After attending British preparatory school, Kim moved to the quiet confines of Cornell College, where he was taken in by host parents Drs. Kim and Becca Brandt. He says they were extremely generous to him, and the three remain close.

Kim worked as a photo editor for Reuters Wire Service before settling in Pittsburgh and is now pursing a master’s degree in public policy management through the University of ittsburgh. His volunteer work includes serving as treasurer for the Nicaraguan Development Center, a nonprofit group working to promote Nicaraguan business and a
better standard of living.

Kim and his wife, Sharon, have two children, Ethan, 3, and Emma, 1.
