A new geography card game patterned after Go Fish is keeping creator Margaret Smyth Emmons 44 happily occupied. Orders have come from 30 states and eight foreign countries for Go Travel: Africa, a deck of 52 playing cards representing the 54 countries of Africa.
Go Travel evolved from three homemade card games she created to play with her grandsons after five trips to Africa and Israel during a span of 17 years. The boys played it at school and here after school and they soaked in the geography, she says. I was inspired to make a professional game and Africa was the obvious choice.
Over a period of three years this retired anesthesiologist from Clinton, Iowa, visited trade shows, located map software, found a team of graphic artists, and chose a printer. She conducted research and gathered photos and stamps from numerous travelers to Africa.
Emmons avocation is now a full-time business (see www.travelbygames.com) and her next project is closer to homeGo Travel: USA.
