For 15 years English professor Toppy Tull (1917-1947) and the English Club published an annual Cornell Mother Book, a pamphlet given to mothers of Cornell students on Mother’s Day. Within its pages were poems by students written in tribute to their mothers. Here is a sample from a 1924 book, recently donated to the archives by Ed Fordyce ’63 (his mother was Frances Bell Fordyce ’38):
Here’s to you, My Mother.
So patient and so dear,
Your love’s not like my sweetheart’s love—
It’s a darn sight more sincere.
