Letters to the Editor

From the Hilltop to the Hill

Please extend my congratulations to both Dave Loebsack and Chris Carney on their respective races for Congress. They not only were in the right place at the right time to win very tough races, they are, more importantly, highly qualified individuals who have excellent intellectual capacities, and some awesome experience behind them. I am confident that their presence in Congress will bring great benefit to their constituents, as well as to the national community. I wish each well, and am proud to claim them as fellow Cornellians.

Loebsack Speech

The winter ’07 Report is visually attractive and just darned interesting. It’s
the interesting part that’s so impressive, I think. You always manage to put together interesting stories with connection to the world beyond Cornell, and you have such a deft, gentle touch with Cornell history.

I particularly enjoyed the item on Chris Carney ’81, who took one of the journalism classes I taught. As a student, he worked as an EMT. It’s impressive for Cornell to have two members of Congress.

Theatre reviewed

Perusing the winter 2007 edition of the Cornell Report reminded me of how much I enjoyed last year’s production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Hauntingly disturbing, yet magnificently cast, horeographed,
and staged, it was a performance worthy of the best theatrical venues in the country. Kudos to all involved.
