Major: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Hometown: Fort Collins, CO
My fellowship experience:
"I learned a lot about how a nonprofit research facility works, and how research is done in a non-academic setting."
Mehrdad Zarifkar '09
Crow Fellow in Genomics
Translational Genomics Research Institute
Aims of the Fellowship:
Large-scale genome association studies, a study that compares a population's genotype with their phenotype or physical expression of that gene, are a common way to attempt linking a disorder to a gene. It was my job to optimize the process of finding the genes that cause Alzheimer's disease.
