Language Teaching Methodology Theoretical and practical issues involved in teaching foreign languages, including human learning, first language acquisition, cognitive variations in language learning, personality and sociocultural factors, linguistic aspects of language learning and testing. Observation and practice in teaching foreign language. Required of all foreign language and ESL teaching majors. Prerequisite: 205 course in a foreign language. Alternate years. 352. Linguistics The scientific study of language. Structural features of languages and the procedures used to describe them: phonetics, phonemics, morphology, and syntax. Illustrations drawn from English and other languages. Offered subject to availability of staff.
