Health Service
The Health Center staff is comprised of two registered nurses. Physicians from family Medical Associates in Mount Vernon are available for consultation and referral. Health Center services include management of illnesses, emergency and injury care, pregnancy testing, maintenance allergy shots, wellness care, and a number of diagnostic laboratory tests. Students requiring x-rays will be referred to the local clinic. Gynecological services are provided on campus by Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa on a weekly basis.
A limited selection of over-the-counter medications is available for purchase at the Health Center. Prescription medications are phoned to the local pharmacy unless otherwise specified by the student. Crutches, heating pads, and humidifiers are available for loan on a limited basis.
The College carries an accident insurance policy on all full-time students. Students not having proof of coverage by a family or group medical insurance plan are required to purchase the optional sickness plan offered at a nominal cost. Filing an insurance claim is the student's responsibility. Claim forms are available at the Health Center or The Dean of Student's Office.
All medical records are maintained in strict confidence and are securely stored. No information is released without a student's written permission.
