Women's Studies (WST)

Advisor: Catherine Burroughs

The Women's Studies program and interdepartmental major are supervised by a Committee composed of faculty members who teach courses dealing with the position and concerns of women. Cornell's offerings about women consist both of courses lodged in departments and courses offered by Women's Studies itself. This model seeks to integrate feminist scholarship into the curriculum of the disciplines themselves while also providing key courses that draw upon the interdisciplinary nature of Women's Studies.

Major: A minimum of 8 course credits, which include WST 171, one Advanced Topics course numbered in the 300s (excluding 389 and 390), and 411; also five course credits selected from additional Women's Studies courses or from ART 327 (Feminist Art), EDU 255 (Gender in American Education), FRE 254 (French Women Writers in Translation), HIS 255 (American Lives: Women's Lives), PHI 352 (Philosophy of Feminism), PSY 374 (Psychology of Women), SOC 273 (The Family) and 343 (Women in Society). Consult the advisor for other courses that may be counted toward the major.
