This interdepartmental study of the culture and society of Mediaeval and Renaissance Europe includes courses pertinent to the periods, an independent project, and the opportunity for study in Europe (see below).
Major: A minimum of 10 course credits, distributed as follows:
- Two course credits in one of the following languages: Ancient Greek, French, German, or Latin (or Italian, if transferred from another institution);
- Two course credits selected from HIS 301 (Europe: 400-1100), 302 (Europe: 1100-1300), and 303 (Europe: The Renaissance); and ENG 321 (Mediaeval English Literature);
- ENG 323 or 324 (Shakespeare I or II);
- Three course credits selected from ART 319 (Mediaeval Art) and 321 (Renaissance and Baroque Art); HIS 311 (Aristotle and the Origins of Western Science), 312 (Scientific Revolution of the Seventeenth Century), 370 (Muslim, Jewish, and Christian Cultures in the Middle Ages); MUS 321 (History of Western Music I); PHI 303 (Mediaeval Philosophy); POL 324 (Christian Political Thought); or, with the approval of the Mediaeval and Renaissance Studies Committee, from offerings relevant to the period in other departments; and
- Mediaeval and Renaissance Studies 485.

485. Mediaeval and Renaissance Studies Senior Project Independent project, required of all majors during their senior year. Prerequisite: permission of the Mediaeval and Renaissance Committee.
