Leave of Absence

A leave may be granted by the Dean of Students because of medical, financial, personal, family or other problems that are best treated away from Cornell. The College will not accept credits by transfer (other than from summer school) for courses taken at another institution while a student is on a non-academic leave from Cornell. While on a Leave of Absence, a student is not considered to be enrolled at Cornell and is, therefore, ineligible for any financial aid from the College. A student who does not return to Cornell within 12 calendar months after beginning her or his leave will be automatically withdrawn from the College unless granted an extension by the Dean of Students or the Academic Standing Committee. Students currently receiving financial aid who plan to request a Leave of Absence should consult the Office of Student Financial Assistance before making any decisions.
