240. Contemporary Chicago: The Interplay of Economics, Community, and Politics in Urban Development (in Chicago)
Examination of the relationship between economics, community and politics in the development of Chicago from the 1950’s to today. Topics include 1) the evolution of Chicago into a global business center; 2) the evolution of neighborhoods and the evolution of community action and community organizing and 3) the evolution of ward politics. Approximately two weeks of the course will be taught in Chicago. Entails additional cost. Prerequisites: sophomore standing and two courses selected from ECB, POL, or SOC. GARNER/CONKLIN
