Insect ABC's

Back to Cassie and Caroline

Varied Carpet Beetles get their name from where they live, in carpets and other materials such as wool products, furs, or feathers. Varied Carpet Beetle larvae love to eat dead insects and spiders, so it is not uncommon to find this type of beetle larvae in an insect collection. Generally, these beetles are about 2-3 millimeters in length and are black in color with yellowish-brown and white scales on their backs.
