Zootermopsis angusticollis, the dampwood termite, is most commonly found on the west coast. They are attracted to cool and humid costal climates. Swarming usually occurs between August and October. Termites feed off the wood and assist in the spreading of wood decay fungi through the spores that are carried in the gut of their bodies. Dampwood termites attack timbers that are in contact with the soil and structures that are built near or over water. They live in very damp or moist to wet areas.
