Giant water bugs are also known as toe bitter, also known as Lethocerus "americus". Toe bitters are found in ponds and slowly moving fresh water. At night they leave the water in search of a mate or another pond. They are tan or brown in color and can deliver a painful bite if handled carelessly or stepped on.
