The bot fly carries its eggs on its abdomen and then lands on a warm blooded animal and leaves the eggs on the animal’s skin or they place the eggs on a female mosquito and when she feeds on a warm blooded animal the eggs fall to the animal’s skin. Once the bot fly larva hatch they then burrow into the skin of the animal or person and leave a small breathing hole where they entered the skin. The maggots then feed off of their host's body. The type of bot flies that feed on humans, Dermatobia hominis, are found in Mexico and Central America.
