The Brown Recluse is an elusive spider that prefers to make its home in dark places such as closets, under furniture, and boxes. The spiders are not aggressive unless disturbed. Their venomous bite does not always cause immediate pain and if left untreated the wound can erupt into a "volcano" lesion that may take many months to heal. If not treated quickly after the bite, the lesion may leave heavy scarring as well. However, a majority of recluse bites only result in a small red or white bump with no major health consequences. Death from a bite is extremely rare.
