The Goliath beetle belongs to the scarab family. Some of the beetles in this family are known as dung beetles. They feed off of dung, and help to clean the enviroment. The dung beetles, which includes the Goliath beetle, have had many myths told about them originating with the ancient egyptians. Scarab beetles are known for pushing dung across the ground and putting it in their burrow. In this dung ball they lay their eggs. The scarab beetle became the god Khepera, who pushed the sun across the sky, in the same manner that it pushed the dung balls across the ground.
