Fruit Fly

The fruit fly appears in households during the summer and is usually found in the kitchen. They are attracted to fruit, vegetables, and near areas where garbage is stored. The fruit fly is very small, only 1/8 of an inch long. The fruit fly can be easily identified by its red eyes. Fruit flies have been very important to the field of genetics. Their short life cycle and large chromosomes make them excellent research subjects. The fruit fly is not a true "fruit fly," but rather a vinegar or pomace fly.
