Bamboo Shoot Weevil

Bamboo Shoot Weevils are edible and are collected and sold by the local people of Thailand. Frying is the favorite cooking method.

Bamboo Shoot Weevils are borers generally found in the mountains of northern Thailand. The larvae develop inside the stems of bamboo. The inner pulp is destroyed. Then the larvae bore their way upwards inside the stem. External signs are the hole at the stem, shortened internodes and stiffened sheaths. Woodpeckers prey upon them too.
