Rosalind Franklin did most of the x-ray crystallography that laid the foundation for Watson and Crick to do their model building and propose a detailed structure for double stranded DNA. Her contribution was never adequately recognized, and the Nobel Prize citation included Maurice Wilkins, who had turned the project over to Franklin before much data had been collected. Franklin died before the Prize was given to Watson and Crick. |
