In January of 2009, David Boussios interned at the Cascade Policy Institute in Portland, Oregon. The Cascade Policy Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research and educational organization that focuses on state and local issues in Oregon. It attempts to affect public policy through a variety of mediums including forums, speakers, debates, and legislation.

Boussios spent the majority of his work on environmental and energy policy, working closely with the program director of climate change and energy policy. He analyzed and prepared testimony for bills before the Oregon Legislative session and testified before the Sustainability and Economic Development committee in Oregon house.

Says Boussios, "My economic work at Cornell prepared me excellently for my internship. I was able to apply my economic background to actual work. As my supervisor’s background was also economics it allowed for great discussions work related as well as casually. I was also able to use the same computer programs I learned at Cornell at Cascade."

Boussios appreciated the flexibility afforded to him by his supervisors, "While many courses have strict schedules and expectations, I was allowed to delve into many aspects. Often times I was given a clean slate and told to find everything you can and anything I found to be important on a certain subjects or topics."
