Hosford Fellow in Philosophy and Environmental Ethics

Ubelong
Napo, Ecuador

Aims of the Fellowship

Philosophers seldom leave the comfort of the theoretical, intellectual sphere they were born in and this is an aspect of philosophy and my education that I would like to confront. I will work with an international volunteer organization in the Napo province of Ecuador on conservation in the Amazon rainforest while simultaneously producing my Philosophy thesis. I am interested in learning how we, as environmental ethicists and conservationists, can balance the needs of complex ecosystems with the people who live in environmentally protected areas.
