Miller Fellow in Behavioral Neuroscience

University of Iowa, Blumberg Laboratory
Iowa City, IA

Aims of the Fellowship

I will be working in the Blumberg Lab's Department of Psychology and Brain Sciences, which examines the unconscious behaviors related to sleep in infant rats. I will be working on a project that examines the relationship between red nucleus stimulation (a region in the brain related to sleep), the production of limb movements, and the activity of the early gene c-fos in the brain. I will have the opportunity to observe various research protocols, such as observing brain surgery on an infant rat to implant a device that stimulates the red nucleus.
