Women's Soccer Coaching Staff

Michael Joyce, Head Coach

Joyce begins his first season as head women's soccer coach at Cornell. He was Cornell's assistant men's soccer coach in 2006, along with head duties as boys' coach at Clear Creek-Amana High School.

Joyce is a 1994 graduate of Saint Francis (Calif.) High School, where he helped his soccer team win the Central Coast championship in 1993. He was team captain and most valuable player and also selected league Offensive Player of the Year. Joyce was head freshman/junior varsity boys' soccer coach at Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) High School from 1998-2000. He helped coach the De Anza Sharks girls' youth club team for seven years. Joyce's club squads reached the Northern California State finals seven years and won four state titles. Sixteen of his players went on to play soccer at the NCAA Division I level.

Joyce earned a bachelor's degree in English, with a concentration in creative writing at San Francisco State University in 2002. He started two years at center midfield for the Gators. Joyce was team captain and most valuable player and selected to the all-conference and All-Far West Region teams. He has also played for the North California State Olympic Development teams.

Joyce was the assistant men's soccer coach at San Francisco State for four years (2002-06). In 2005, the Gators ranked 13th in the country (NCAA Division II) for most improved teams and equalled the program's highest win total over the previous 25 years. His 2003 squad earned Academic All-America Team honors.

Joyce owns a national "B" coaching license with the United States Soccer Federation. He plans to complete his master's degree in sport management at the University of San Francisco in fall 2007. Joyce and his wife, Samantha, reside in Iowa City.

 

Sara Williamson, Assistant Coach

Williamson begins her first season as assistant women's soccer coach. She is also in her third year as Cornell's cheerleading coach and campus recreation director.

Williamson was a four-year starter and two-time academic all-conference performer at Mundelein (Ill.) High School from 1994-97. She was a freshman starter on the soccer team at North Park (Ill.) University during the 1997-98 season and then played her final two seasons at MacMurray (Ill.) College from 1999-2001. Williamson was MacMurray's leading scorer as a junior and named team captain and academic all-conference the following season. She earned a bachelor's degree in physical education K-12 at MacMurray in 2001.

Williamson has been head girls' soccer coach at Mount Vernon High School since 2005. She owns a 32-14 record and has coached 20 all-conference players and six all-staters. The Mustangs won the conference title in 2006 and ranked as high as 12th in the state in 2007.

Williamson has current Illinois and Iowa coaching and teaching certifications.

Sara and her husband Mike reside in Mount Vernon. They have two children, Sebastian, 4, and Lincoln, 1.

 

Casey Kujawa, Assistant Coach

Kujawa begins her first season on the Ram coaching staff. She was a four-year letterwinner on Cornell's soccer team and played in 73 matches as a defender from 2003-06. Kujawa earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2007.

Kujawa was a three-year starter at Linn-Mar High School. She has coached recreational soccer for four years and been an assistant for the varsity girls' team at Linn-Mar the past three seasons.

Kujawa has a state of Iowa coaching authorization and is also an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer.
