Women's Basketball News ReleasesAccess the News Release archive.MOUNT VERNON — Cornell junior Tiffany Cowan (Independence, Mo.) has been named the Iowa Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Female Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 20. Cowan tallied a game-high 18 points with seven rebounds in a 70-63 loss to Buena Vista Jan. 19 in Storm Lake. She shot 4-of-8 from long range and went 4-of-4 from the foul line. Cowan became the third women’s basketball player in school history to reach 700 points and 500 rebounds in a career. She currently has 757 points and 510 rebounds. Lisa Fry (1,131 points, 647 rebounds from 1998-2002) and Joyce Weeg (935 points, 927 rebounds from 1979-83) are the only other Rams to accomplish the feat. Cowan leads the Rams in scoring (13.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg) this season. She is shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 89.7 percent (26-of-29) from the foul line. The Rams (7-8 overall, 2-5 IIAC), fresh off a 78-70 overtime win Monday over Dubuque, travel to play Coe at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 in Cedar Rapids. Cowan, a 2005 graduate of Truman High School, is the daughter of Mike Skinner, Gladstone, Mo., and Donna Cowan, Independence, Mo.
