Abeyta becomes ninth member of Rams' 100-win club

Ram rewind - Cornell senior Caryl Abeyta (Eaton, Colo./Eaton) recorded her 100th career victory in helping lead the Rams to a 3-1 mark last week.

AbeytaAbeyta, the lone upperclassmen on the Rams' roster, became the ninth women's tennis player in Cornell history to reach the 100-win milestone. She currently stands ninth on the all-time list with 104 wins. Abeyta ranks seventh in both career singles wins (54) and career doubles wins (61) with the Rams.

The Rams (4-7 overall, 0-3 Iowa Conference) reeled off three straight victories before falling 8-1 at North Central Sunday in Naperville, Ill. Cornell posted a 7-2 home win over St. Ambrose Sept. 17 and then swept a pair of Saturday matches at Lake Forest (6-3) and Olivet Nazarene (6-3).

Abeyta finished a strong week 6-2, including a perfect 4-0 mark at No. 2 singles. Her four singles wins all came in straight sets. Abeyta claimed Cornell's lone win over North Central.

Freshman Alyssa Zavislak (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South) went 3-1 at No. 4 singles. Kirsten Lasley (St. Paul, Minn./Saddlebrook) and Kara Middleton (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) each finished 2-2 in singles. Cornell's No. 3 doubles team of freshman Samantha De Gannes (Diego Martin, Trinidad/International School Port of Spain) and sophomore Amanda Johnson (North Branch, Minn./North Branch Area) finished 3-1.

Elite company - Abeyta joined an exclusive group of 100-match winners at Cornell, which includes Pavla Brachova (148), Emily Loewen (147), Marie Schutte (144), Ingrid Spiegel (131), Lindsey Pfalmer (120), Jennifer Henson (116), Stacey Barth (111) and Jenna Morris (109).

Abeyta owns a career record of 104-64. She is currently 49-34 in singles plays and 55-30 in doubles.
