Men's Basketball News ReleasesAccess the News Release archive MOUNT VERNON — Cornell’s Michael Tierney (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has been named the Iowa Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 13. Tierney added 12 points in an 81-70 loss to Loras Jan. 12 in Dubuque. Tierney, who missed five games in December due to an injury, is averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 3.3 assists per game this season. He leads the IIAC in free throw percentage (93.1), going 27-of-29 from the foul line and currently with 14 in a row. Tierney is the second Ram to receive the weekly honor this campaign. Backcourt mate Griffin LaDew (Pewaukee, Wis./Waukesha Catholic Memorial) was recognized Jan. 6 and Dec. 9. The Rams (5-8 overall, 3-1 IIAC) stand third in the league race, one game back in the loss column to Buena Vista (5-0) and Loras (4-0). Cornell hosts Wartburg at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 and visits Buena Vista at 4 p.m. Jan. 19 in Storm Lake. Tierney, a 2005 graduate of Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, is the son of Rod and Ann Tierney, Cedar Rapids.
