Ram review – Cornell opened the 2008 season with a pair of dual losses Feb. 2 in Pella. The Rams fell 9-0 to host Central and dropped an 8-1 decision to nonconference foe Graceland.
“We played hard and were into the matches,” first-year head coach Patrick Cote said. “Our opponents were superior in terms of caliber, but we did not let that stop us from believing we had a chance to win. Our players know what they have to work on now to raise their games.”
Sophomore Brandon Wolff (Keokuk/Keokuk) picked up the Rams’ lone win of the day, coasting in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6 singles against Graceland. Cote was also pleased with the showing of junior Bryan Henderson (Coleraine, North Ireland/Coleraine) at No. 3 singles. He fell 6-1, 7-5 to Central and 6-2, 6-4 to Graceland. Henderson teamed with John Mineck (Cedar Rapids/Kennedy) in a competitive 8-6 setback at No. 2 doubles against Central.
The Rams (0-2 overall, 0-1 Iowa Conference) return to action Feb. 15-16 with three duals in two days at Decorah.
