Cornell posts Saturday sweep over Simpson, Morningside

Ram review - Junior Brandon Wolff (Keokuk/Keokuk) prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker in the final singles match of the dual to carry Cornell to a 5-4 Iowa Conference victory over Simpson Saturday in Indianola. The Rams went on to post a 6-3 nonconference win over Morningside later in the day.
Cornell (8-16 overall, 2-4 IIAC) held a 4-3 lead over Simpson with two matches remaining. The Storm tied the dual at 4-4 with a three-set win at No. 2 singles. Wolff came through for the Rams in the end, delivering a 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 comeback win at No. 4 singles.
Wolff was also victorious at No. 3 doubles, scoring an 8-6 win with partner Ryan Walden (Edina, Minn./Edina). Cornell received singles wins at No. 1 from Kris Andresen (Katy, Texas/Taylor) and No. 5 from Walden. Andresen and John Mineck (Cedar Rapids/Kennedy) won at No. 1 doubles.
Mineck and Walden each went 2-0 in leading the Rams to victory against Morningside. Mineck rallied in three sets at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-2 and 10-6, and teamed with Andresen for a 9-7 decision at No. 1 doubles. Walden won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-2 and 6-4, and scored an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles with Wolff. Cornell also gained singles wins from Neal Klauer (Fridley, Minn./Fridley) at No. 3 and Courtland Olson (Afton, Minn./Woodbury) at No. 6.
Cornell concludes the home portion of its schedule Saturday, April 18 with an IIAC double dual against Buena Vista (9 a.m.) and Dubuque (3 p.m.) in Mount Vernon.
