Rams host Central Saturday
Coming up - Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Wartburg, Waverly, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 17, vs. Central, Mount Vernon, 3 p.m.; Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Simpson, Indianola, 7 p.m.
Ram rewind - Cornell had its hands full against Loras Saturday, falling 9-1 to the nation's fifth-ranked team in an Iowa Conference match in Dubuque.
Loras (11-1-1 overall, 4-0 IIAC), a 2008 national semifinalist, outshot the Rams (3-9, 0-3) by a 36-2 margin. The Duhawks built a 6-0 lead at halftime and reeled off eight unanswered goals before Cornell got on the scoreboard in the final minutes.
Freshman forward Alex Beehler (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) notched Cornell's lone goal at the 86-minute mark. Beehler's team-high sixth goal of the season came on an assist from freshman Bear Jacobsen (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), his first helper of the fall.
Goalkeeper Ben Alleva (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) finished with 10 saves for the Rams. He faced 25 shots alone in the first half. Loras held a 10-4 edge in corner kick attempts.
Under the lights - The Rams will play their final two IIAC road matches under the lights, both starting at 7 p.m. Cornell visits Wartburg (8-3-1, 3-1) Wednesday, Oct. 17 and travels to Simpson (5-4-2, 2-2) Oct. 21.
The Rams have remaining home contests left with Central Oct. 17, Buena Vista Oct. 24 and Dubuque Oct. 31. Central and Buena Vista are both winless in conference play.
Team leaders - Beehler and junior Sungeun Kim (Kathmandu, Nepal/Lincoln) have accounted for 25 of the Rams' 55 total points this fall. Beehler leads the team in scoring with 14 points (six goals, 2 assists). Kim has registered 11 points (five goals, one assist). Senior Joey Vandermause (Madison, Wis./Northland Pines) has a team-high four assists.
