Quarterback named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week

Cornell senior quarterback Anthony Kobler ( Brentwood, Mo./ Brentwood) has been named Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sept. 9.

Kobler completed 18-of-30 passes for a career-high 391 yards and three touchdowns in Cornell’s 35-34 win over Alma ( Mich.) Sept. 8 in Mount Vernon. He threatened Cornell’s single-game passing yards mark of 425, set by Chuck Hooker against Illinois College in 1985. Kobler also rushed for a team-high 86 yards (9.6 ypg) and a touchdown.

Kobler fired a 52-yard touchdown strike to Kyle Krogmann (DeWitt/Northeast) on the game-winning drive with 1 minute, 39 seconds left to play.

“Kobler had a helluva day,” Cornell head coach Matt Dillon said. “He had one of the best games by a quarterback in Cornell history.”

Kobler has totaled 578 passing yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions through two games this season. He has rushed for 120 yards, averaging 5.5 per carry. Kobler leads the Iowa Conference in total offense with 349.0 yards per game.

Kobler has helped lead the Rams to a 2-0 start this season. Cornell plays host to Loras at 1 p.m. Saturday in the IIAC opener at Ash Park Stadium.
