MOUNT VERNON — Cornell’s Chris Gustafson (Lakewood, Colo.), Shane Eaglin (Fort Worth, Texas) and Travion Hardman (Oak Park, Ill.) were named to the all-Iowa Conference football teams, released Nov. 14.

Gustafson, a senior middle linebacker, was tabbed to the first team. Eaglin, a senior offensive lineman, earned second team honors. Hardman, a junior running back, was selected honorable mention. Gustafson is the first Ram to receive first team all-league honors since wide receiver Matt Ditch in 2003.

Gustafson, a second team pick last year, tallied 135 tackles (73 solo, 62 assisted) to lead the Rams in that category for the third consecutive season. The 6-foot, 243-pound Gustafson set school records for solo tackles in a game (14 at Central, Oct. 27, 2007), tackles-for-loss in a season (20.0, 2007) and solo tackles in a career (219, 2004-07). He finished second on Cornell’s career list with 472 total tackles, just nine shy of the school record held by John Crane (481, 1998-2001).

Gustafson ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in three defensive categories this season. He is eighth in solo tackles per game (7.3), tied for ninth in tackles-for-loss per game (2.0) and 11th in total tackles per game (13.5). Gustafson registered double-digit tackles in 33 games over his career, including his final 17.

Eaglin, a four-year letterwinner, started all 10 games at left tackle for the Rams this season. The 6-3, 271-pound Eaglin anchored an offensive line that helped Cornell finish third in the IIAC with 160.9 rushing yards per game. The Rams scored a rushing touchdown in nine of 10 games and totaled 12 for the year. Eaglin played in 39 games in his career.

Hardman, who earned second team accolades a year ago, paced Cornell’s rushing attack with 705 yards on 135 carries and seven touchdowns. The 5-9, 200-pound Hardman ranked fifth in the IIAC in rushing yards per game (70.5) and second in yards per carry (5.2). Hardman rushed for a season-high 111 yards against Loras, Sept. 15.

Hardman has played in all 30 games during his first three seasons with the Rams. He has amassed 1,871 rushing yards on 408 attempts with 16 touchdowns.

The Rams finished 2-8 overall and 0-8 in the IIAC under second-year head coach Matt Dillon.

Central quarterback Tim Connell was named Most Valuable Player in the IIAC. Central’s Jeff McMartin was voted Coach of the Year. It is the third straight year the Dutch have captured both honors.

Gustafson, a 2003 graduate of Bear Creek High School, is the son of Julie and Larry Gustafson, Lakewood, Colo. Eaglin, a 2004 graduate of Brewer High School, is the son of Cynthia and Christopher Johnson, Fort Worth, Texas. Hardman, a 2005 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, is the son of Carnetta and Lucius Hardman, Oak Park, Ill.
