the News Release archive Gustafson was one of seven football players recognized from the Iowa Conference. Wartburg receiver Kyle Duchman, Coe defensive back Tom Breitbach, Dubuque defensive back Mark Mashburn and Central linebacker Greg Altmaier were picked to the first team. Luther running back Tyler Sherden and Dubuque offensive lineman Michael Fielding were second team choices. To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, be a starter or key reserve on the team and possess at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA. Gustafson has enjoyed a stellar senior season and a record-breaking career on the football field for the Rams. The four-year starter ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season in solo tackles per game (7.8), seventh in total tackles per game (13.9) and ninth in tackle-for-loss per game (2.1). Gustafson holds school records for solo tackles in a game (14 at Central, Oct. 27, 2007) and solo tackles in a career (216). He has collected 462 total tackles in his career, second on Cornell’s all-time list behind John Crane (481, 1998-2001). Gustafson, a 2003 graduate of Bear Creek High School, is the son of Julie and Larry Gustafson, Lakewood, Colo. The Rams (2-7 overall, 0-7 IIAC) conclude the season against rival Coe at 12 p.m. Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
