Sports Medicine Staff

Orthopedic Surgeon:

Dr. Mark Mysnyk, Steindler Orthopedic Clinic PLC, is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the Midwest. Dr. Mysnyk assists in supervising Cornell's Athletic Training Program. Dr. Mysnyk was an alternate on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team in 1976 and wrestled for the University of Iowa from 1974 - 1979.

Physicians:

The Mount Vernon Family Medical Center, headed by Dr. Steve Young, are the team physicians for Cornell College. The doctors cover all home football games on a rotating basis and are on call for all other home events. They also work in the Ebersole Health Center, Cornell's student health center.

Head Athletic Trainer:

Dick R. Simmons, LAT/ATC, is in his 17th season as the head athletic trainer at Cornell College. He was named interim director of athletics in August after serving eight seasons as assistant director of athletics. Simmons is a graduate of BGM High School (1983) and William Penn College (1990). Simmons, who started at Cornell in 1991, is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society, and the College Athletic Trainers' Society.

Autum Lopata, LAT/ATC, a native of Walker, Iowa, is a 2003 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in athletic training. This is her 5th year at Cornell College. While at Northern Iowa, Lopata completed rotations with the football, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's track and field, women's basketball and volleyball teams.

Eric Dybvig

Eric Dybvig, LAT/ATC, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., is in his third year at Cornell College. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 2001 and his master's degree from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2004. He is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Mid-American Athletic Trainers' Association and the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society.

Dybvig and his wife, Kelly, live in Marion with their son, Jackson.
