CORNELL SUPPORTING FLOOD RECOVERY
Cornell’s hilltop campus has escaped the historic floods that are beginning to recede in the surrounding area. Utilities and services are functioning normally. Offices, Cole Library, and research labs have remained open, although highway and bridge closures in the area have prevented a number of employees from reaching campus.

Now we are supporting the recovery efforts. Up to 325 Red Cross volunteers have arrived from across the country filling Merner Hall. Sixty women, children, and live-in staff from a Cedar Rapids social service agency are staying in another residence hall. ServiceMaster workers began arriving last Sunday night. The company is renting a residence hall to house 137 of its staff who have begun the cleanup effort. Our Cedar Rapids law firm, Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, is also renting space to operate a temporary satellite office from campus.

Updates will be posted regularly on the college’s home page.

HOW TO HELP
Many of you have asked how to help. At this time we suggest donating to the Red Cross. In addition, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation (GCRCF) opened the Flood 2008 Fund. The fund will support nonprofit organizations in Linn County who are providing first-response efforts and ongoing recovery and rebuilding. GCRCF encourages donors to support first-responders such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the United Way of East Central Iowa. The Flood 2008 Fund will support these organizations immediately as well as funding recovery and rebuilding efforts in the months to come. Donations may be sent to:
