CORNELL
HONORED IN DES MOINES
The Iowa Legislature honored Cornell's
sesquicentennial March 9 at the Capitol in Des Moines, where
the Senate and House chambers hosted college chaplain Catherine Quehl-Engel
'89 leading the prayers and President Les Garner giving remarks after
the reading of resolutions. The Cornell Concert Choir performed in the
rotunda.
INAUGURAL
DELT LECTURE - BOB WOODWARD
Journalist Bob Woodward became the first speaker in the Delta Phi Rho
Lecture series, funded by the Delta Phi Rho Centennial Endowment when
he spoke in King Chapel Thursday, March 11. This endowment will heighten
the intellectual discourse and broaden the outlook of the campus and community
by bringing nationally prominent speakers to campus every other year to
interpret relevant issues of the day. more..
KOLLMAN
LECTURE - GARRY WILLS
Celebrated historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Garry Wills spoke
at Cornell on "The Burden of Slavery in American History" February
11 in King Chapel. Wills' address during Black History Month was Cornell's
2004 Eric
C. Kollman Memorial Lecture. He is the 13th speaker in the
series and the first to address the topic of slavery in America.

GALAS KEEP CORNELLIANS CONNECTED
Alumni and friends have celebrated Cornell's sesquicentennial at gala
events nationwide, featuring the sesquicentennial video, live
music and cocktails, dinner and desserts. The Colorado Gala in Denver
drew more than 200 guests, the Twin Cities Gala in Minneapolis 165, the
Southwestern Gala in Scottsdale, AZ, 120 people from several Western states,
and 88 recently gathered in St. Louis. Upcoming
galas will be in Des Moines (April 3) and Chicago (May 1).

BOOKS, VIDEOS & DVDs
Watch
for an upcoming mailing about the colleges first comprehensive scholarly
history, a two-volume boxed set by Bill Heywood and Richard Thomas, emeriti
history professors. The authors describe a Cornell that reflects the turmoil
of modern American society while remaining true to its ideals and maintaining
its uniqueness. The sesqui video (VHS or DVD), as seen at the alumni galas,
will also be offered
for sale. It has won two national awards, including a bronze
Telly.
SESQUICENTENNIAL
$150,000 CHALLENGE
Help Cornell make history! We are over halfway to our goal with only three
months remaining. We really need you! Any
new or increased gifts to the Annual Fund will be matched dollar for dollar
up to $100K, and a $50K bonus gift will be given if alumni participation
reaches 40%. That translates to 800 new donors to the Annual Fund - will
that be you?

HOMECOMING
2004
Alumni are invited to the Hilltop Oct. 8-10 for Homecoming
2004. The theme is "Proud past. Bright future." Special
festivities are planned for reunion classes of 1954, 1959, 1969, 1974,
1979, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1999. Kappa Theta sisters will celebrate their
50th anniversary.

MOSER CLOSES 33-YEAR CAREER AT CORNELL
Alumni Office programs coordinator Beverly
Moser retires April 30 after serving Cornell for 33 years,
including 28 on the alumni staff. Cornell will honor her with a reception
and dinner April 16. A month later on a Hawaiian beach at sunset she'll
marry Clyde Perlenfein '57 of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

The sixth season of Music
Mondays closes with a performance March 15 by the Peabody Trio,
8 p.m. in King Chapel.
ALUMNUS
TO SPEAK ON CAMPUS
William Parsons '67, chief of staff of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum,
will lecture on "Holocaust Remembrance & Confronting Genocide"
on April 15, 11 a.m., in The Commons.
JAZZ
BAND COMING TO KANSAS CITY
Kansas City area alumni and friends can hear the Cornell Jazz Band perform
May 19 at the American Jazz Museum. Wine and heavy hors d'oeuvres will
