Homecoming 2011
Homecoming 2011, October 14-16 will mark President Brand's first homecoming on the Hilltop and we hope to see you there! There will be several opportunities to meet the president, including the faculty-alumni reception on Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m., a meet and greet in the homecoming tent on Saturday at 1 p.m., and the Saturday night dinner and dance at the Cedar Rapids Marriott, which will also feature the band The FunkDaddies, an area favorite.

Please join us for Homecoming Convocation in King Chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Distinguished Achievement Award will be presented to Loren Hiratzka '66 for his distinguished career in the field of cardiovascular science; the Leadership and Service Award will be awarded to David Korslund '76, Daniel Brennan '81, and Tamra Thompson Toussaint '86 for their many years of service to the college and their communities; and the Young Alumni Achievement Award will be presented to Mikelle Wortman '10.  The C-Club breakfast on Saturday morning will feature Hall of Fame Inductees Jackie Clark '83, Tony Every '91, Tina Naaktgeboren Brooker '91, and J.D. Wagner '92.

Cornell among nation's most interesting colleges
Cornell College was recognized as one of the 13 most interesting colleges in the U.S. by the Huffington Post review of the Fiske Guide to Colleges for 2012. Cornell was one of only two Midwestern schools on the list, along with Kalamazoo College. Among other reasons, Cornell was featured because of its close relationship between faculty and students and its distinctive Once Course At A Time academic calendar.

Brand Inauguration set for 2012
The inauguration of President Brand will take place next year on Saturday, April 21, 2012.  All faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends are invited.  The afternoon ceremony in King Chapel will follow the annual Student Symposium, Inauguration weekend will also feature athletic events and student creative work with senior art shows, and theatre, orchestra, and choir performances. Special receptions will follow the inaugural ceremony.

Cornell honored for service
Cornell was honored by The Corporation for National and Community Service as a leader among institutions of higher education for the college's support of volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. Cornell was admitted to the 2010 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for engaging its students, faculty and staff in meaningful service that achieves measurable results in the community.

Alumni in the news
Brian McMillin '06 was featured in the June 19 Gazette after he finished this project to photograph all 974 small towns in Iowa. Brian took pictures of interesting buildings in each town, like courthouses, post offices, old opera houses and newly finished community centers. You can go to http://iowabackroads.com to view Brian's photos. Harper Reed '01 is serving as chief technology officer for the Obama 2012 campaign. Harper will focus on helping field operators improve voter contact.
