Class Agent Job Description
Class Agents serve as a spokesperson for the college and his/her class. Each graduating class nominates and votes for their Class Agent in the spring of their senior year.
Responsibilities during Senior Year:
- Work with the Alumni and College Advancement Office to organize activities sponsored by the Alumni Association and CASA for the class to celebrate their senior year.
- Serve one three year term on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Board members are required to attend two meetings per year (fall and spring), held at Cornell. If you are unable to return to campus for these meetings, we ask that you decline your position on the Alumni Board so that another young alum can be chosen to fill the position. Directors may be removed and replaced after two successive absences by the Executive Committee.
- Perform other duties as need arises, and as mutually agreed upon.
Responsibilities and expectations of Class Agents:
- Within the timeline provided by the Alumni and College Advancement Office, complete two class letters each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. These letters will include class news and news about Cornell. Each letter will include a soft Annual Fund appeal to classmates.
- Assist in supporting and raising funds for Cornell's Annual Fund, by contributing and educating your classmates about Cornell's financial condition.
- Work with the Alumni and College Advancement Office to provide coordination and planning for class reunions and reunion gift campaigns.
- At least once every five years attend the annual class agent meeting which coincides with the Annual Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting in the fall. The Class Agent meeting is a time to discuss issues related to class agent activities and responsibilities with other agents, and to represent your class at the Board meeting.
- Act as liaison between Cornell and classmates.
- Class Agents will serve a term of five years, and will have the opportunity to renew their commitment if they choose to fulfill another term.
- Classes Agents who are unable to fulfill the above responsibilities to the satisfaction of the college will be asked to step down as acting Class Agent.
Cornell College will provide the following support services:
- Orientation materials during the first year of service, and all necessary support throughout the agent's service. Materials include information about the College and Cornell's Alumni and College Advancement Office activities.
- Annually updated roster of your class including telephone numbers, e-mails and addresses will be mailed in August.
- A semi-annual update that will coincide with the writing of Class Agent letters. This update will contain information about events, programs, and issues that may or may not have been covered in other materials.
- Class notes and related class information received by the College will be mailed to the Class Agent prior to August 1 and March 1 each year.
- Provide support services for typing, printing and mailing Class Agent letters and related materials.
- All support services related to reunion planning, including reports, meeting arrangements, and letter processing.
If you are elected as Class Agent you will be expected to sign the following agreement:
CLASS AGENT AGREEMENT
As Class Agent for the Class of 200#, I agree to the following responsibilities while serving as Class Agent:
1. During senior year, collaborate with CASA officers to coordinate the Senior Dinner, and other senior activities prior to graduation.
2. Work with the Alumni and College Advancement Office to provide coordination and planning of class reunions and reunion gift campaigns..
3. Within the timeline provided by the Office of Alumni and College Advancement, complete two class letters each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Letters will include class notes and news about Cornell. Each letter should include a soft fundraising appeal.
4. Assist in supporting and raising funds for Cornell's Annual Fund, by contributing and educating my classmates about Cornell's financial condition.
5. Act as liaison between Cornell and my classmates.
6. When appropriate, maintain confidential information about classmates and/or information from the college.
7. Serve on the Cornell College Alumni Association Board of Directors for a term of three years beginning the fall following my graduation.
As Class Agent for the Class of 200#, I fully understand the responsibilities stated above and hereby agree to serve as Class Agent for a term of 5 years. I also understand that if I, or the college, feels I am unable to fulfill these duties, I will be replaced as Class Agent.
