Alumni Board Profiles 2011| Jennifer Albrecht ’98, St. Paul, MN, is Marketing Manager at Arthur Chapman Kettering Smetak & Pikala, P.A. in Minneapolis. While receiving a BSS with concentrations in English, Art, and Communications and a minor in Psychology, Jennifer was involved in PAAC, Wind Ensemble, the steel drum band, and President’s Council. Jennifer’s most memorable Cornell experiences include trips with PANdimonium, Bill Dragon’s 300-level Pscyh course, and hanging out with friends on the OC. Yoga, indoor rock climbing, kick boxing, and outdoor activities are among Jennifer’s favorite hobbies today. |

Kanesha Lee Baynard '94, Lafayette, CO, is the Director of Field Experiences, School, and University Partnerships in the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. With masters degrees from the National Louis University and Governors State University, Kanesha taught at both Illinois and Colorado secondary schools prior to becoming a professor and administrator. A Spanish and secondary education major, Kanesha was involved in Sigma Delta Pi, Alpha Signma Pi, and the Black Awareness Cutural Organization (BACO). She enjoyed visits to Sutliff and the Pal while attending Cornell. Her hobbies include blogging, crafting, baking, hiking, and camping. Kanesha is married to Tahllee Baynard '97. |

Deborah Stewart Bowman '74, Monticello, IA, recently retired as head of the Monticello schools English Department. An English, speech, and theatre major, Deb was president of the Commons Union Board, director of freshman orientation, an Arrow, and participant in numerous theatre productions. Deb has three daughters, including Elizabeth '05, who is Associate Director of Development at Cornell. Her hobbies include mentoring new teachers, PEO, Questers, reading, and swimming. |

| Andy Briscoe '96, Jefferson City, MO, is legal counsel for the Missouri Department of Public Safety. A history and communciations studies major, Andy was Student Senate President, a member of Sigma Tau, and later served as a Young Trustee. After college, he worked in the financial services industry before receiving his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law. Along with his leagl work, Andy has been adjunct instructor at an area community college for the past three years. His hobbies include politics, travel, biking, cooking, reading and infrequently working out. |

| Harris "Tim" DeLong '69, Des Moines, IA, retired in 2005 from a 33-year sales career at IBM. At Cornell he majored in chemistry, minored in economics and business, and was an Owl. A member of the men's basketball and golf teams, he was names Outstanding Ahtlete in 1969 and later inducted into the Hall of Fame. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Greece for 16 months before earning his MBA at the Unviersty of Iowa. These days he enjoys golf, politics, and travelling with his wife, Lea. | |
| Mark Dohnalek ’82, Lee’s Summit, MO, is the owner of RBH Mill & Elevator, which was recently sold to Lewis-Goetz, the 17th-largest industrial distributor in the U.S. An Economics and Business major, Mark was a Gamma involved in basketball and baseball before receiving his MBA at Keller Graduate School. Receiving a quality education and the national and global diversity of the student body are what Mark appreciated most about his Cornell experience. Mark enjoys sports and traveling with his family. |

Jeffrey Flug '10, Cedar Rapid, IA, is a manger for Hi-Vee Food stores. An Art major, Jeffrey was involved in PAAC, CASA, C.A.S.H. (a pool and poker club!), the Art Interest Group, and also served as a Residence Assistant. One of his most memorable moments involved preparation for his senior art project, when a classmate saved the day by constructing a makeshift kiln to fire one final ceramics project. Jeffrey’s hobbies include fishing and playing video games. |

| Jerry Gale ’74, Plymouth, MN, is a B2B marketing professional. A psychology major, Jerry was an Owl and enjoyed intramural sports before receiving his MBA at the University of Minnesota. Memorable Cornell experiences include meeting his wife, learning to write in Dr. Richard Martin’s freshman English class, cooking steaks on Saturday nights, and feeding the white rats in the psych lab. Jerry’s hobbies are running, basketball, reading non-fiction history, and traveling to national parks. | ![]() |
| Kathryn Gutz ’57, Cedar Rapids, IA, retired as a Cornell College Admissions counselor and has also worked for Maytag, the University of Iowa, and College Community schools. Majoring in home economics, English, French, and education, Kathryn was a co-founder of the Kappa Thetas and was also involved in choir and cheerleading. She lived in Pfeiffer Hall and remembers going to the Coal Bin for dancing and snacks, playing bridge in the “smoker”, and Pal Day. Kathryn enjoys tennis, bridge, reading, cooking, antiques, and is a docent at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. | ![]() |
| Andrea Herrera ’85, Chicago, IL, is the president and owner of Amazing Edibles Gourmet Catering. While majoring in English, functional art and music history, Andrea was a resident assistant and was involved in English Club and Kippers. One of her favorite memories was the Shakespeare play with Steven Lacey. | ![]() |

Paul Hutchison '87, Grinnell, IA, is Assistant Professor of Education at Grinnell College. A physics major/theatre minor at Cornell, he also has an MS in physics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a PhD in science education from the University of Maryland. As a Cornell student Paul was involved with the forensics club, numerous theatre productions, and two Shakespare plays. His many fond Cornell memories include Professor Graber's experimental physics course, being introduced to bourbon by Professor Lacey, and the theatre productions he was a part of. Paul loves his job, claiming it is his hobby, and also enjoys getting beat at Mariot Kart by his nine year old son. |

| MJ Huebner ’88, Denver, CO, works at Noel-Levitz, a higher education consulting firm. Majoring in English, MJ was a Theta, Student Senate president, and SAAC president. MJ’s passion is world travel (Thailand is her favorite country to date) and is most grateful for the Cornell friends she made. |

Derek Johnson ’04, Washington D.C., is program director at Global Zero. An English and philosophy major, Derek received his J.D. from Boston College Law School. While at Cornell, he was in the Cornell Literary Society, Media Board and Student Senate; and editor for The Cornellian, Open Field and Littera Scripta Manet. Derek’s most memorable Cornell experiences were every single “on week” in the Cornellian office. Derek enjoys writing, traveling, running, winemaking and cooking. |

| Sheila Kruse Boyce ’85, Miami, FL is president and co-founder of DeepStream Designs, Inc. After majoring in English and Spanish, Sheila received her MBA at the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto. Sheila’s Cornell activities included PAAC, Student Senate, Spanish Club, The Cornellian, New Student Orientation, and working as an Admission tour guide and resident assistant. Her most memorable Cornell experiences were senior seminar with Stephen Lacey, dances in Alumni Gym, and studying in Mexico and Spain. | ![]() |
| Isaiah McGee '01, is Interim Director of Human Rights and Consultant in Education for the State of Iowa. Prior to this appointment, he ran his own consulting business; before that, he taught high school economics and history. Currently president of the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation and previously a member of the Waukee City Council, he has also served on several Des Moines civic boards. At Cornell he majored in history and was a member of the football and wrestling teams. Isaiah is married to alumnae Megan Sherman McGee '01. | |
| Jan Lansing Murphy ’83, Louisville, CO, works for the American Institute for Foreign Study and Front Range Community College. Jan was a psychology and philosophy major involved in Psychology Club, choir, and was VP for Alpha Sigma Pi before receiving an MA from the University of Iowa. Her most memorable experience was meeting Professor Paul Gray, and eventually majoring in Philosophy. Jan enjoys travel, cultural exchange, raising Labradors, and refinishing antique furniture. | ![]() |
| Natashia Pierce '11, Cincinnati, OH, is a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati with an emphasis on structural geology. A geology major and spanish minor at Cornell, Tashia also served as vice-president of CASA, editor in chief of The Royal Purple, and treasurer of both the geology club and the National Residence Hall Honorary Society. | |
| Matt Pilger ’09, Arvada, CO, is a a recreation aide and special events supervisor for the City of Westminster, CO. An art major, Matt received an MBA in Sports Management from Columbia Southern University and is now working on a Master of Science in Sports Leadership. As a student, he was football team captain, Cornell Alumni Student Association President, RCCA president and is the Class of 2009 class agent. Matt enjoyed class trips to Rome and Hawaii, working with Tony Plaut on his senior art exhibit, and being a 30-game starter on the football team. Matt enjoys YMCA RecLeague basketball and volunteering with Knights of Columbus and church youth. | ![]() |
| Eileen Quigley '84, Chicago, IL, is associate managing director of loan operations at The Private Bank in Chicago. At Cornell she majored in economics and business, minored in political science, and was both a swimmer and an Arrow. These days she holds a Six Sigma Black Belt certificate in advanced data analysis and serves on the baord of advisors for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chciago. Eileen is also a diehard Cubs fan. | |

Lynn Ross Cope ’87, Johnston, IA has been a corporate
trainer. A sociology and women’s studies
major, Lynn received her master in adult education from Drake Unvierstiy. While at Cornell, she was involved in the
Thetas, tennis, Student Senate, choir, intramurals, and studied abroad in England
and Mexico. Lynn’s most memorable Cornell
experiences were trips with Professors Clute and Salazar, the Shakespeare play
with Professor Lacey, courses with Professor Crowder, dances in Alumni gym or
Pfeiffer basement, and family-style meals.
Lynn says one of her recent proud moments was being a Precinct captain
for Barack Obama in the largest precinct in Iowa (she retired caucus night). |

| Allan Ruter ’76, Glenview, IL, works independently as an educator and writer after retiring from the Glenbrook High Schools as teacher and director of its Academy of International Studies. An English and history major, Allan later earned master’s degrees from Northwestern University in teaching and literature. While at Cornell, he was editor of The Cornellian, student body president, Student Affairs Governing Board chair, and Young Trustee. Some of his most memorable experiences came while living in Altoona Hall, the men’s honors residence. Allan’s hobbies include international travel, suburban gardening, and eclectic music (symphonic, choral, gospel, jazz, bluegrass, and classic rock). |

Lee Schmudde '72, Celebration, FL, is Vice President of Law and Environmental Affairs for Disney. He has the most seniority of any lawyer in the worldwide Disney/ESPN organization. A philosophy and politics major with a JD from Duke University School of Law, Lee participated in Cornell student government and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. His fondest memories at Cornell were winning intramural sports championships for the Milts Fraternity, semester abroad in England, and mandatory convocations in King Chapel. Lee's hobbies include sport fishing, golf, and tennis. |

| Tim Wynes ’83, Minneapolis, MN, is President of Twin Cities Community College. A political science major with a J.D. from St. Louis University Law School and PhD from Iowa State University, Tim was an AHRA in Olin Hall, Student Senate Treasurer, a Gamma, and class commencement speaker. His fondest memories include pledging, rescuing a freshman at dinner who made the mistake sitting at the Owl’s table, and having Charles Cochrane and President Secor on state, laughing in all the right places during his commencement speech. Tim enjoys running road races with his family, photography, and going on college visits with his daughter. | ![]() |
| Dick McKeen ’55, Iowa City, retired after 30+ years as a real estate agent. He is a past president of the Iowa Association of Realtors and past director on the National Association of Realtors board. A native of Mount Vernon, Dick was a sociology major, football player and Delt, and is now class agent for the Class of 1955. He was drafted into the U.S. Army just prior to graduation. Dick worked his way through college at his father’s restaurant in Mount Vernon, Mac’s Sugar Bowl Café. In their spare time, Dick and his wife, Kathleen, support University of Iowa hospitals and athletics and have season tickets to both football and basketball. | ![]() |
| Margaret (Peg) Sellen Dana ’73, Coralville, IA, is AVP of Operations at ACT in Iowa City, responsible for delivering the ACT test worldwide. She earned a Masters degree in English from Washington University in St. Louis. Peg was president of Dows, on the Commons Union Board and SAGB, and elected to Mortar Board and Phi Beta Kappa. Special memories include Saturday classes, EIL semester in England, Open Field readings, working as Professor Isaacs’s student secretary, and the “Dumpf” campaign. There was also Professor Robert (RP) Dana to whom she was married 35 years until his death in 2010. Peg enjoys travel, cooking, reading, and keeping in touch with friends. | ![]() |
