• Are holistic. The liberal arts emphasize the interconnectedness of knowledge.

• Are flexible. The liberal arts graduate knows how to explore problems from more than one vantage point.

• Are practical. Students learn to read critically, communicate effectively, solve problems, do research, be creative.

• Are comparative. By crossing over to other ways of thinking and valuing, we learn to walk in another’s shoes, to see through another’s eyes.

• Are risky. Learning about the world around us may shake up some of our core beliefs, but may also lead to deeper and better reasoned ideas.

• Are a way of living. The liberal arts graduate knows how to learn and can transfer skills and knowledge from one realm to a new one.
